Expelled Congress Leader Mohammed Moquim Signals Launch of New Political Party in Odisha

Former Congress leader Mohammed Moquim has indicated that he is in the final stages of forming a new Odisha-centric political party. The proposed outfit may be named Odisha Janata Congress or Odisha Lok Congress and will focus on issues concerning the people of the state.

Expelled Congress leader Mohammed Moquim on Tuesday hinted at the launch of a new political party in Odisha, stating that discussions and preparations have reached a decisive stage.

Addressing the media, Moquim said the proposed political outfit is likely to be calledOdisha Janata CongressorOdisha Lok Congress. He emphasised that the party would be Odisha-centric and committed to addressing issues specific to the state and the concerns of the Odia people.

“Preparations are ongoing, and we are meeting leaders and people from different sections of society. The process has reached a crucial phase,” Moquim said.

As part of the outreach programme, he announced that a women’s convention will be held onJanuary 30, followed by a farmers’ convention onFebruary 5. According to Moquim, these meetings will focus on key issues affecting women, farmers, and other sections of society.

He further stated that once the party is formally launched, it will start organisational preparations with an eye on the upcomingmunicipal and panchayat elections.

Clarifying questions about the participation of Sofia Firdous in various programmes, Moquim said she has been attending events in her role as a trustee of theMoquim Foundation.

Further details regarding the formal launch, leadership structure, and future roadmap of the proposed party are expected to be announced soon.
