Foreign Currency, ₹2.69 Lakh Cash Seized at Dunguripali Railway Station; Youth Flees

Railway authorities seized ₹2.69 lakh in Indian cash and foreign currency from a bag abandoned by a youth at Dunguripali Railway Station. The suspect fled the spot, and an investigation is underway.

Railway authorities seized foreign currency notes along with ₹2.69 lakh in Indian cash from Dunguripali Railway Station in Odisha’s Sonepur district after a youth fled the premises, officials said on Wednesday.

According to sources, the incident came to light when a Railway Protection Force (RPF) havildar noticed a young man sitting alone on the station premises with a bag and behaving suspiciously. The havildar approached him and questioned him about the contents of the bag.

The youth reportedly stated that he was waiting for the Puri–Durg train and planned to travel to Jhansi. However, during questioning, he suddenly abandoned the bag and fled from the station, raising further suspicion.

The havildar immediately alerted the Bolangir RPF unit and the station master. RPF personnel soon arrived at the spot and conducted a detailed search of the unattended bag in the presence of railway authorities.

During the inspection, officials recovered ₹2.69 lakh in Indian currency along with 19 foreign currency notes from the UAE, Malaysia, China, and Thailand. The seized cash and currency notes have been taken into custody for further examination.

The identity of the absconding youth has not yet been established. Authorities have launched a probe to trace him and determine the source of the money and the purpose behind carrying multiple foreign currencies. Officials stated that investigations are underway to ascertain whether the seized amount is linked to any illegal activity or financial irregularities.
