TheDelhi Directorate of Educationhas commenced the online admission process for children belonging toEconomically Weaker Sections (EWS),Disadvantaged Groups (DG), andChildren with Special Needs (CWSN)seeking entry-level admission in private unaided recognised schools for the2026-27 academic session. The application window opened recently and will remain active untilMarch 16, 2026on the dedicated portal managed by the education department.
Under theRight to Education (RTE) Act, 2009, all private unaided recognised schools (except minority institutions) must reserve25 % of entry-level seats— including Nursery, Kindergarten, and Class 1 — for eligible students from EWS, DG, and CWSN categories. The portal is designed to make the process fully digital, allowing parents to apply, check eligibility, and track applications online without visiting schools or education offices physically.
Of the 25 % reserved seats,22 % are allocated to EWS and DG applicants, while3 % are set aside for CWSN students. To qualify under the EWS category, families must have a total annual income below ₹5 lakh. The DG category includes children from Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and Other Backward Classes (OBC) non-creamy layer, as well as orphans, transgender children, and those affected by HIV, and doesnot require an income certificate.
The system will use acomputerised draw of lotsto allocate seats fairly and transparently, and details on the first draw date will be shared soon through official notifications. Children admitted under these categories will benefit from free and compulsory education in private schools as mandated by law, offering many families access to quality education irrespective of financial background.
