Cold weather is set to return across the state, with temperatures expected to drop further from today as cloud cover gradually clears, the Meteorological Department said. Night-time lows may fall by 2–3°C over the next two to three days, with no major change expected thereafter, potentially intensifying cold conditions and affecting daily life, especially during early morning and night hours.
Earlier, temperatures had risen slightly due to upper-level cloud cover linked to an active deep depression, reducing the chill temporarily. However, with the system weakening, meteorologists predict cold conditions will strengthen again.
Authorities have advised people to exercise caution, particularly vulnerable groups such as the elderly, children, and those spending extended periods outdoors during night and morning hours, as the cold spell is expected to persist in the coming days.
