Clash Erupts During Agnimitra Paul’s Outreach in Asansol South Amid “Go Back” Protests

Tension flared in Asansol South after BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul faced protests and “Go Back” slogans during her public outreach campaign. A clash broke out between BJP and TMC supporters before police restored normalcy.

Political tension resurfaced in West Bengal’s Asansol South Assembly constituency after BJP MLA Agnimitra Paul faced protests during her door-to-door outreach campaign in the New Egara area. The incident occurred at Panda Bandhpara, where a group of Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers reportedly raised “Go Back” slogans as the MLA interacted with residents.

According to local sources, protesters also shouted “Joy Bangla,” prompting a counter-response from BJP supporters. The verbal exchange quickly escalated into heated arguments, pushing, and eventually a physical scuffle between supporters of both parties. BJP leaders alleged that one of their workers was assaulted by TMC activists during the confrontation.

Protesters claimed that Agnimitra Paul had not been active in the constituency over the past five years and had returned only ahead of elections. They alleged that several promises made during the previous campaign remained unfulfilled, while local panchayat representatives had maintained regular contact with residents.

In response, Paul accused TMC workers of intentionally disrupting her campaign and asserted that she would continue her outreach efforts. She also criticised the state government over development issues, stating that civic works such as roads, drainage, and street lighting fall under the responsibility of local authorities.

Police and special forces reached the spot and brought the situation under control. Although normalcy was restored, the incident has further intensified political tensions in Asansol South as elections approach.
