Burglars allegedly broke into a locked house and decamped with cash and gold ornaments worth over ₹1 lakh at Patapur village under Udala police station limits in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district. The burglary targeted the residence of local villager Banoj Badhei and occurred when no one was present at the house.
According to sources, the family had gone out to attend a Bathudi cultural programme. On returning late at night, they discovered the house lock broken and signs of forced entry. The miscreants reportedly damaged both the first and second grill gates to gain access to the house.
The burglars allegedly looted around ₹60,000 in cash and gold ornaments valued at more than ₹1 lakh from inside the premises. Describing the incident, the complainant said both grill gates were broken and valuables were missing.
Following the complaint, police visited the spot and launched an investigation. Officers are examining the crime scene and questioning local residents to identify those involved. No arrests have been made so far.
The incident has raised concern among local residents, who have demanded increased night patrolling in the area to curb such crimes. Police said further investigation is underway and efforts are being made to trace the accused.
