‘Breakdown Car’ Used for Ganja Smuggling Busted in Sonepur district; 2 Arrested

Police in Sonepur district arrested two persons after busting a cannabis smuggling racket that used a ‘breakdown car’ as cover. The contraband was hidden inside a specially designed secret cabin in the vehicle.

In a major crackdown on illegal drug trafficking, police on Sunday exposed a new modus operandi of cannabis smuggling in Sonepur district and arrested two persons in connection with the case.

The operation came to light during routine vehicle checking on National Highway 57 along the Sonepur–Bolangir route. Police intercepted a car that was being towed by another vehicle and appeared to have broken down. The setup was allegedly used as a tactic to avoid suspicion during transit.

Upon conducting a detailed search, officers discovered a substantial quantity of cannabis concealed inside a specially fabricated secret cabin within the vehicle. The hidden compartment had been designed meticulously to evade detection.

Superintendent of Police, Narayan Nayak, stated that the secret cabin was professionally installed to facilitate smuggling activities. He noted that traffickers are increasingly adopting disguised methods to transport contraband.

Police seized the cannabis consignment along with the vehicles involved in the smuggling attempt. Further investigation is underway to trace the source of the contraband and identify its intended destination, as well as any possible links to a larger network
