Border 2opened to a strong start at the Indian box office on Friday, benefiting from the Republic Day holiday and the legacy of the 1997 classic. The Sunny Deol starrer reportedly earned between Rs 30 and Rs 35 crore nett on Day 1, comfortably outperforming last year’s major releasesChhaavaandDhurandhar, according to early trade estimates.
However, the film could not surpass the opening day numbers ofGadar 2, which had crossed Rs 40 crore nett in 2023. With a three-day national holiday window ahead,Border 2is well-positioned to gain momentum over the weekend. Trade analysts expect the film to cross the Rs 100 crore nett mark by Sunday, with the potential to reach Rs 150 crore by Republic Day if positive word of mouth continues.
Backed by T-Series and JP Dutta Films,Border 2draws strength from Sunny Deol’s enduring popularity and the nostalgia associated with the originalBorder, supported by performances from Diljit Dosanjh, Varun Dhawan and Ahan Shetty.
