Bihar to Launch Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya in Every Block from 2026–27

The Bihar government will establish one Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya in each of its 534 blocks, starting Class 9 from the 2026–27 session. Admissions will be based on a merit list through an entrance exam scheduled for March 11.

TheBihargovernment is set to roll out a major education reform by launching oneAdarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya(Model Secondary School) in every block of the state. The initiative will begin with Class 9 admissions for the 2026–27 academic session, opening new pathways for students across both rural and urban areas.

Entrance Exam-Based Admission

Admissions will be conducted through an entrance examination scheduled for March 11. Selection will be strictly merit-based, ensuring transparency and fairness in the enrolment process.

TheState Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT)extended the online application deadline from February 15 to February 20 to allow more students to apply. The move aims to maximise participation and ensure no eligible student misses the opportunity due to time constraints.

Part of Saat Nishchay-3 Programme

This ambitious plan is part of the state government’sSaat Nishchay-3programme. A total of 534 blocks across Bihar have been identified to receive these model schools.

The core objective is to systematically prepare students from Class 9 onward for competitive examinations such as:

  • National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET)

  • Joint Entrance Examination (JEE)

  • National and international Olympiads

By starting early, the programme aims to strengthen conceptual understanding and competitive readiness among students.

Modern Infrastructure and Academic Support

Each Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya will feature:

  • Smart classrooms

  • A modern library

  • State-of-the-art science laboratories

  • Regular test series and performance analysis

  • Doubt-clearing sessions

  • Individualised career counselling

Experienced teachers and subject experts will guide students in a disciplined academic environment designed to encourage focus and long-term growth.

Bridging the Rural-Urban Education Gap

The initiative is expected to reduce disparities between rural and urban education standards. By offering high-quality teaching and structured competitive exam preparation at the block level, the programme aims to support talented students who may otherwise lack access to advanced coaching facilities.

Technology-enabled learning and updated academic resources will further enhance students’ readiness for higher education and future careers.

Academic Session Timeline

The first batch of selected students will begin their academic journey in the 2026–27 session. Authorities have indicated that this timeline allows adequate preparation for infrastructure setup, faculty recruitment, and curriculum planning.

Overall, the Adarsh Madhyamik Vidyalaya initiative reflects Bihar’s push toward merit-based, systematic secondary education reform with a strong focus on competitive exam excellence.
