Bhubaneswar is witnessing a rise in air pollution, with the air quality index (AQI) frequently remaining in the poor category. In response, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has launched a major tree plantation initiative to tackle pollution and expand the city’s green cover.
Ambitious Afforestation DriveAs part of the plan, BMC aims to plant one crore trees this year. The project is intended to improve air quality, enhance the city’s environmental health, and create a sustainable green space for residents.
Mayor Urges Public ParticipationBhubaneswar Mayor Sulochana Das emphasised the importance of citizen involvement, calling on residents to actively join the plantation drive. “Plant trees to combat pollution,” she said, highlighting that air pollution is a global challenge affecting cities everywhere, including Odisha.
Through this proactive initiative, Bhubaneswar seeks to curb rising pollution levels while fostering a cleaner, healthier environment for current and future generations.
