Bhubaneswar International Airport (BPIA) achieved a historic milestone in 2025, recording its highest-ever annual passenger traffic of 5.15 million, the most since the airport began operations. This growth marks a major boost for Odisha’s aviation sector and positions Bhubaneswar as the 13th busiest airport in India by passenger movement.
The rise reflects increasing demand for air travel from the state capital, driven by economic growth, improved connectivity, tourism, business travel, and official movement. Currently, the airport connects to 28 domestic and international destinations, strengthening its role as a key aviation hub in eastern India.
“This is the first time Bhubaneswar has crossed 5 million passengers in a year, making it the 13th largest airport in the country,” said Prassana Pradhan, Director of Bhubaneswar Airport. The milestone is seen as a matter of pride for Odisha and highlights the city’s growing importance on India’s aviation map.
