Bhanjanagar Police Station in Ganjam Turns into Community-Friendly Park-Like Space

Bhanjanagar Police Station in Ganjam district, Odisha, has been transformed into a welcoming and community-friendly space. With greenery, lights, temples and a children’s park, locals now visit the station not just for complaints but also to relax and interact freely with police, strengthening public–police relations.

Bhanjanagar Police Station in Ganjam district, Odisha, has emerged as a unique example of community-friendly policing. The police station has been transformed into a pleasant and welcoming space, attracting visitors of all age groups who come not only for official work but also to spend time in a peaceful environment.

The premises now feature flower plants, greenery, colourful lighting and well-paved walkways, giving it the appearance of a park. A small children’s park with swings and slides has been developed inside the station, along with temples dedicated to Lord Ganesh and Lord Trinath Swami. Drinking water facilities are also available, making the place accessible and comfortable for women, children and elderly visitors.

Local residents have praised the initiative, saying the station feels more like a garden than a police office. Bhanjanagar Police Station In-charge Jibanananda Jena said the transformation was driven by the belief that a clean, pleasant workplace positively impacts both police personnel and the public.

Police staff actively participate in maintaining the premises, with the officer-in-charge personally taking care of plants every Sunday. According to officials, the initiative aims to reduce fear, encourage open communication and build trust between the police and the community.

Inspired by this success, several other police stations in Ganjam district have also undergone similar transformations.
