The Excise Department conducted a major crackdown on illegal liquor operations in Balasore on Wednesday, seizing and destroying large quantities of illicitly prepared liquor and raw materials. The raid, carried out in the Old Balasore area by an independent Excise team in collaboration with local police, followed complaints about ongoing illegal production and trade of country liquor.
Officials destroyed the confiscated stock on the spot, and 15–20 people have been detained so far, with further arrests possible as investigations continue to uncover the network behind the illicit trade.
Authorities noted that such incidents have occurred in the region before, but illegal liquor operations persisted. The current action is part of a wider effort to curb illicit alcohol production, safeguard public health, and enforce the law. The Excise Department also assured stricter monitoring going forward and urged residents to report any suspicious activities related to illegal liquor brewing.
