The Australia national cricket team is set to return to South Africa for a highly anticipated Test series in 2026, their first since the infamous 2018 ball-tampering scandal that rocked world cricket. The tour will begin with a three-match ODI series from September 24 to 30, followed by three Test matches starting October 9.
The final Test will be held at Newlands Cricket Ground, the same venue where Cameron Bancroft was caught using sandpaper to tamper with the ball. The incident resulted in bans for Bancroft, former captain Steve Smith, and vice-captain David Warner, triggering leadership changes and a major cultural review in Australian cricket.
Smith is now set to make his emotional return to Newlands, alongside teammates Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc, Nathan Lyon, and Josh Hazlewood. Warner, however, has since retired from international cricket.
The tour represents a significant moment for Australia, symbolising closure and redemption after one of the darkest chapters in their cricket history. Australia will also aim to regain form after a disappointing ICC Men’s T20 World Cup campaign.
