Alia Bhatt’s ‘Alpha’ Confirmed for April Theatrical Release, OTT Rumours Dismissed

Alia Bhatt-starrer Alpha, the first female-led spy film from Yash Raj Films’ spy universe, will release in theatres in April. The makers have clarified that the film was never planned as a direct-to-OTT release, with the delay attributed to extensive VFX work.

Putting to rest speculation surrounding its release strategy, Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt, is officially set for a theatrical release in April. Industry sources have clarified that contrary to rumours of a direct-to-digital premiere, the film has always been designed as a big-screen experience, with production currently in its final stages.

Directed as a high-octane spy thriller, Alpha marks a significant milestone for Yash Raj Films’ blockbuster spy universe as its first female-led action film. Alia Bhatt headlines the project alongside Bobby Deol and Sharvari Wagh in key roles. Bobby Deol is expected to portray the main antagonist, with his character reportedly transitioning from mentor to adversary, adding emotional and narrative depth to the story.

Initially scheduled for an August release and later considered for a Christmas 2025 window, the film was eventually pushed to April to allow additional time for visual effects. Yash Raj Films has stated that the delay was necessary to ensure the film meets the visual scale expected from the franchise.

Speculation around an OTT release gained momentum in recent weeks, but sources close to the production emphasised that Alpha was conceived as a cinema-first film. Speaking earlier about the project, Alia Bhatt described the film as both a creative milestone and a calculated risk, noting the lack of historical precedent for female-led spy films within the genre.

With large-scale action, heavy VFX, and a fresh narrative approach, Alpha is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated Bollywood releases of the year.
