A truck en route from Cuttack to Dhamra port rammed into a residential house in Chandbali area of Bhadrak district early Thursday morning after the driver lost direction due to dense fog, police said.
The incident occurred in Patrasahi village along the Bhadrak–Chandbali road. According to sources, the driver was navigating through the area using GPS when heavy fog severely reduced visibility. Unfamiliar with the local roads, he inadvertently diverted from the main road and entered a narrow village lane.
Locals said the truck continued deep into the residential area before the driver realised the mistake. While attempting to turn the vehicle around, the truck lost control and crashed into a house belonging to one Ramesh Das, causing significant damage to the structure.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the family members managed to escape in time. However, household belongings were damaged in the impact.
Preliminary investigations suggest that dense fog played a major role in the accident, significantly impairing visibility during the early morning hours. Police said the driver was heavily reliant on GPS navigation, which may have contributed to the error.
Local residents gathered at the scene following the crash, prompting police intervention to control the situation and restore normalcy. The truck was later removed from the spot, and further inquiry is underway.
Officials have once again urged motorists, especially heavy vehicle drivers, to exercise caution while driving in foggy conditions and avoid relying solely on navigation apps in unfamiliar areas.
