A minor fire broke out on the premises of Bhubaneswar Airport after dry grass caught fire on Saturday, officials confirmed. The blaze was quickly doused by the airport’s in-house fire services team, preventing it from spreading further. There were no injuries, structural damage, or disruptions to airport operations.
Authorities clarified that the fire was limited to a patch of dry grass within the airport’s operational zone. Due to dry weather conditions, the flames spread briefly but were controlled immediately. Passengers and airport staff remained safe, and routine airport activities continued normally without panic.
Airport Director Prasanna Pradhan termed the incident “minor” and praised the quick response of the fire personnel. He also clarified that the fire was not caused by a discarded cigarette. Preliminary assessment suggests the incident may have been triggered by an electrical spark or from firecracker devices used by bird chasers to keep birds away from the runway area.
Airport officials have intensified monitoring and safety checks in the vicinity to prevent similar incidents in the future.
