A freight train derailed near Dumuriput in Odisha’s Koraput district late on Monday night, once again raising concerns over repeated railway derailments in the state. The goods train was travelling from Jagdalpur to Visakhapatnam when at least two of its wagons went off the tracks. The exact cause of the derailment is yet to be determined.
Following the incident, railway authorities launched immediate restoration operations. Accident Relief and Restoration Teams (ART) were deployed to rerail the wagons and repair the affected track. Senior officials from various railway departments, including electrical, track maintenance, and station management, rushed to the site to supervise the work.
Due to the derailment, the Jagdalpur–Visakhapatnam Night Express was diverted via Koraput. Rail traffic on the affected section was disrupted, though no injuries were reported. In a similar recent incident, a goods train had derailed at Rupsa railway station in Balasore district, highlighting ongoing safety concerns.
