A youth sustained serious injuries after being hit by a moving train near a railway crossing under Barapali police station limits in Odisha’s Bargarh district on Tuesday. A video of the incident has reportedly been circulating widely on social media.
The injured youth has been identified as Lalit Debata, a resident of Remata village in the area.
According to local sources, the railway gate had been closed as a train was approaching the crossing. Lalit was reportedly standing near the gate along with two other youths at the time.
Witnesses stated that as the train approached while blowing its horn, Lalit suddenly stepped onto the railway track. He allegedly stood in front of the oncoming train with folded hands, leaving bystanders shocked.
Within moments, the train struck him. Although he narrowly escaped death, the impact of the collision caused severe injuries and led to the loss of one of his legs.
Following the accident, local residents rushed to the spot and helped rescue the injured youth. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for initial treatment.
Due to the seriousness of his injuries, Lalit was later shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, where he is currently undergoing treatment in critical condition.
