UP Board to Introduce IT, Electronics and Vocational Skills for Students from 2026

From 2026, students in Classes 9 and 11 will study vocational subjects such as IT, electronics and other skill-based courses as part of the UP Board curriculum.

The Uttar Pradesh Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad (UP Board) will make vocational education compulsory for students of Classes 9 and 11 starting from the 2026 academic session, aiming to better align school education with job skills and employability. From next year, students will study at least one vocational subject alongside their regular courses, marking a shift toward practical, career-oriented learning.

UP Board Secretary Bhagwati Singh said subject committees have approved curricula for trades including information technology and allied fields, electronics, apparel, and beauty and wellness. These courses, developed by experts under the guidance of Additional Secretary Satyendra Kumar Singh and Skand Shukla, focus on hands-on training and industry-relevant skills to prepare students for higher education and the workforce.

The curriculum emphasizes practical applications and workplace-ready knowledge rather than theory alone, helping students make informed career choices early. This initiative aligns with the National Education Policy’s goal of strengthening vocational learning in schools, bridging the gap between education and employment, and fostering self-reliance among students.

Work is ongoing to expand the list of vocational trades to cover emerging fields, with support from the Central Institute of Vocational Education, Bhopal, and other subject specialists. Officials say the program will give students practical exposure at a younger age, equipping them for future challenges whether in higher studies or employment after school.
