The Ministry of External Affairs confirmed that two Indian nationals were killed and one remains missing after merchant vessels came under attack during the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The incident occurred while the Indians were working aboard commercial ships operating in waters affected by the hostilities.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the government is closely monitoring the situation and has extended support to the families of those affected. According to officials, the casualties occurred when the merchant ships were targeted amid escalating tensions in the region.
The government also confirmed that some Indians in the Gulf region have been injured during the ongoing conflict. One Indian national injured in Dubai is currently receiving medical treatment, with the Indian consulate maintaining regular contact to ensure his safety and well-being.
In response to the crisis, the Indian government has activated a dedicated control room to address concerns about the safety of Indian citizens in the region. Officials said the helpline has been receiving numerous calls from families seeking information about relatives working or living in West Asia.
The development comes as tensions continue to rise in the Middle East, with increasing risks to international shipping routes and commercial vessels operating in the region.
