U.S. President Donald Trump has issued a stern warning to Iran, saying the United States would respond with overwhelming force if Tehran attempts to disrupt oil shipments through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz.
In a message shared on social media, Trump said any attempt by Iran to halt the flow of oil through the narrow but crucial maritime route would trigger a powerful military response from the United States.
“If Iran does anything that stops the flow of oil within the Strait of Hormuz, they will be hit by the United States of Americatwenty times harderthan they have been hit thus far,” Trump wrote.
The remarks come amid escalating tensions in West Asia involving the United States, Israel and Iran. Trump warned that any attempt by Tehran to disrupt the global oil supply chain would invite a much stronger retaliation.
He further threatened large-scale destruction of targets in Iran if the country attempted to block the shipping route.
“Additionally, we will take out easily destroyable targets that will make it virtually impossible for Iran to ever be built back as a nation again — death, fire and fury will reign upon them,” he said, adding that he hoped such a situation would not arise.
Trump also emphasised the global significance of keeping the Strait open for international trade. He said maintaining free movement through the waterway benefits countries heavily dependent on energy imports.
“This is a gift from the United States of America to China and all nations that heavily use the Hormuz Strait,” Trump said.
The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most critical energy chokepoints. Analysts estimate that nearly20 million barrels of oil pass through the strait every day, making it essential to global energy markets.
The warning comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions following military confrontations involving the United States, Israel and Iran in the region.
