Washington: US President Donald Trump has indicated that the ongoing war involving Iran, the United States, and Israel may only come to an end if Iran’s military structure is dismantled and its leadership is removed from power.
Speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, Trump signalled a tougher stance toward Tehran as the conflict in the Middle East entered its second week.
The US President said he was currently not interested in holding negotiations with Iran and suggested that the ongoing military campaign could make talks unnecessary if Iran’s military capabilities are completely destroyed.
“At some point, there may not even be anyone left to say ‘we surrender,’” Trump reportedly said while addressing reporters.
Trump’s comments came as Iran and Israel continued to exchange attacks, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.
The war, which began escalating on February 28, has led to increased military operations and heightened tensions across the Middle East.
Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian issued a televised apology to neighbouring Gulf countries for the escalation of tensions during the conflict.
In his address, Pezeshkian said Iran had no intention of attacking neighbouring countries and promised that missile launches would only occur if Iran itself was attacked.
However, Trump dismissed the statement, claiming the apology came only after sustained military pressure from the United States and Israel.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said Iran’s apology reflected the impact of what he described as continuous military pressure from the US and Israel.
He also claimed that Iran had effectively been defeated in the ongoing regional conflict.
The situation remains volatile as the conflict continues, with global leaders closely monitoring developments in the Middle East.
