An unusual natural spectacle has been unfolding along the Puri seashore in Odisha, where thousands of live sea snails have been spotted roaming across the sandy coastline over the past few days. The rare sight has drawn widespread attention from tourists and locals at popular stretches such as the Niladri Sea Beach and the Blue Flag Beach.
According to observations by visitors and locals, the sea snails arrive at the shore in large groups during the night. They move slowly across the sand and then disappear back into deeper waters within one to two hours after sunrise. Many tourists described the scene as mesmerising, noting that such large-scale activity of live sea snails had not been seen on the Puri beach earlier.
The phenomenon has added a unique natural charm to the already popular tourist destination, with early morning beachgoers stopping to observe and photograph the unusual sight. Nature enthusiasts and visitors expressed delight at witnessing thousands of sea snails moving together along the shore.
However, the exact reason behind such a large number of sea snails emerging from deep waters remains unclear. It is yet to be determined whether the occurrence is linked to climate change, changes in ocean currents, breeding behaviour, or other natural environmental factors.
Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik shared his observations, stating that the phenomenon could be a regular natural activity. He described the sight of thousands of sea snails arriving together along the shore as mesmerising.
The unusual sighting has sparked curiosity among beachgoers, researchers and nature lovers alike, with many hoping that further scientific studies will help explain the behaviour of the sea snails and the factors influencing their movement along the Puri coastline.
