In a disturbing incident, thieves carried out back-to-back burglaries at two temples in Odisha’s Udala NAC area late Wednesday night. The ancient Mani Nageshwar Temple and the nearby Gayatri Temple in Ward No. 9 were targeted, sparking concern among locals.
At the Mani Nageshwar Temple, miscreants allegedly forced open the donation box and made away with a brass container belonging to the deity. Temple authorities revealed that the donation box had not been opened in seven years, raising fears about the extent of loss.
At the Gayatri Temple, the thieves reportedly escaped with the silver crown of the goddess, along with various silver and brass utensils used in daily rituals.
Upon being alerted, Udala police arrived at both sites and began a probe. During initial inspection, officers discovered a footprint resembling that of a child near one of the temple entrances, prompting suspicion that a minor may have been involved. Police are reviewing CCTV footage from the surrounding area and forensic experts have collected evidence from both temples.
Authorities have assured that all efforts are being made to trace the culprits and bring them to justice at the earliest.
