Lok Sabha Disruption Escalates: MPs Suspended Amid Rahul Gandhi’s Trade Deal and Security Allegations

The Lok Sabha witnessed intense chaos following repeated disruptions, leading to the suspension of several MPs. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi raised allegations over the India-US trade deal, national security concerns, and cited an unpublished memoir, triggering strong objections from the BJP and multiple adjournments.

The Lok Sabha descended into disorder after repeated disruptions by Opposition members, prompting Speaker Om Birla to move a resolution for the suspension of several MPs. The motion was passed by the House, triggering sharp protests from Opposition benches.

Leader of Opposition and Congress MP Rahul Gandhi alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi faced “huge pressure” while finalising the India-US trade deal. He claimed the agreement, which had been pending for months, was suddenly concluded under questionable circumstances and accused the government of compromising the interests of Indian farmers.

Tensions escalated further when Gandhi attempted to authenticate a magazine article referencing unpublished excerpts from former Army Chief M M Naravane’s memoir. BJP leaders objected strongly, arguing that unpublished material cannot be cited in Parliament. The issue led to repeated adjournments as Gandhi raised concerns related to national security and India-China border clashes, drawing sharp reactions from NDA members.

Adding to the chaos, Samajwadi Party MPs staged protests against the redevelopment of the Manikarnika Ghat in Varanasi. They termed the project an insult to Ahilyabai Holkar, the 18th-century queen credited with renovating the historic site, and displayed her pictures inside the House, prompting objections from the Chair.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to address the Motion of Thanks on President Droupadi Murmu’s speech on February 4. With tensions running high, both the government and Opposition are bracing for another round of heated parliamentary debates.
