A religious festival in Tamil Nadu turned tragic when a 60-foot-tall temple chariot overturned in Vellore district, leaving seven people injured. The incident occurred during the traditional Mayana Kollai festival, where devotees pull a decorated chariot carrying a deity as part of a ritual procession.
The accident happened around midnight while the chariot was being pulled toward the Palar River. According to reports, the chariot suddenly lost balance and fell on its side, causing panic among devotees gathered nearby.
Seven devotees were trapped under the chariot and suffered injuries. Police, along with local residents, quickly carried out rescue operations and shifted the injured to a nearby government hospital for treatment.
District officials reached the spot soon after the incident and started an investigation to find out the exact cause of the mishap. Authorities are also reviewing safety arrangements to prevent such accidents in future religious events.
