The ‘Taste of Similipal’ stall at Toshali Mela is attracting visitors with traditional dishes from Mayurbhanj like Similipal rice, Barehipani, and Mahula Pitha. The initiative aims to revive and preserve Odisha’s fading indigenous food culture using authentic ingredients and traditional cooking methods.

A unique stall named ‘Taste of Similipal’ has become a major attraction at Toshali Mela in Bhubaneswar, offering visitors a rare opportunity to experience Odisha’s traditional tribal cuisine from Mayurbhanj. Located at Janta Maidan, the stall showcases authentic dishes prepared using indigenous spices and age-old cooking methods.

Among the highlights is the famous Similipal rice, known for its distinct aroma and secret spice blend, along with Barehipani, a refreshing traditional rice-based drink valued for its cooling and health benefits. Visitors are also enjoying nostalgic delicacies like Mahula Pitha made from mahua flowers, Jalaghantei (snail), and Mansha Mudi (chicken with puffed rice).

The stall, run by Debashree, aims to revive disappearing food traditions and introduce urban audiences to Odisha’s rich rural culinary heritage. The initiative has received overwhelming appreciation, with many visitors reconnecting with their roots through traditional flavours.
