The war dramaBorder 2has emerged as a major box office success, crossing the Rs 100 crore mark in India within just three days of its theatrical release on January 23, 2026. The film has also surpassed Rs 150 crore in worldwide collections, reflecting strong audience interest and sustained momentum across domestic and international markets.
Directed by Anurag Singh,Border 2features an ensemble cast led by Sunny Deol, alongside Varun Dhawan, Ahan Shetty and Diljit Dosanjh. Supporting roles are played by Mona Singh, Medha Rana, Sonam Bajwa and Anya Singh. The film is inspired by the 1971 India-Pakistan conflict and centres on the Indian armed forces’ response to Pakistan’s Operation Changez Khan, expanding the scale of the original 1997 classicBorder.
According to trade tracking website Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 121 crore nett in India and Rs 158.3 crore globally during its opening weekend. The film opened with Rs 30 crore on day one, followed by Rs 36.5 crore on day two and approximately Rs 54.5 crore on day three, showcasing steady growth driven by positive word of mouth.
Figures shared by the makers indicate an even stronger performance, with the film collecting Rs 129.89 crore nett within three days. As per production data,Border 2recorded Rs 32.10 crore on day one, Rs 40.59 crore on day two and Rs 57.20 crore on day three, taking its total nett box office collection to Rs 129.89 crore.
Audience interest remained high on January 25, with the film registering an overall Hindi occupancy of 61.14 percent. Evening shows recorded the highest footfall at 77.03 percent, followed by night shows at 67.15 percent. Afternoon screenings saw 68.93 percent occupancy, while morning shows stood at 31.46 percent. Due to heavy demand, several theatre chains reportedly introduced post-midnight screenings, with shows running as late as 3 am in cities like Mumbai and Bhayander.
Filmmaker Karan Johar also weighed in on the film’s success, praising the recent resurgence of Hindi cinema. In an Instagram post, he stated that the back-to-back success of big-budget films proves that theatrical Bollywood is “back,” emphasising that emotional storytelling continues to resonate with paying audiences. Johar also defended Varun Dhawan against online criticism, asserting that real audience love and packed theatres matter more than social media noise.
With strong box office numbers, high occupancy rates and continued audience enthusiasm,Border 2is firmly positioned as one of the biggest Hindi film successes of 2026 so far.
