In a major breakthrough, suspicion has now centred on a woman in Odisha in connection with the disappearance of a businessman who has been missing for the past seven years.
According to reports, Chandaka police have taken Rashmita Swain, the girlfriend of businessman Balaram Sahani, on remand in connection with his alleged abduction in 2019. The long-pending case has resurfaced following fresh leads, prompting police to reopen the investigation and re-examine the circumstances surrounding Sahani’s disappearance.
Police sources said Swain was arrested from Ganjam around fifteen days ago and has now been taken on a one-day remand to facilitate further questioning. Investigators are trying to determine what happened to Sahani, his possible whereabouts, and the reasons behind the alleged abduction.
Despite the passage of seven years, no trace of the missing businessman has been found. Police are probing multiple angles to uncover the truth behind the unresolved case.
Family members of both Sahani and Swain were present at the police station, though they declined to comment on the matter.
Sources revealed that Sahani and Swain, who were in a relationship, had gone missing together in 2019. While Swain later returned home, Sahani remained untraceable.
Confirming the development, Bhubaneswar DCP Jagmohan Meena said, “The woman has been taken on remand in connection with an old pending case. As part of a review of unresolved cases, we revisited this matter, spoke to family members and questioned the suspect. Further investigation is underway.”
