Nitin Nabin has been unanimously elected as the new national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party, following the completion of the party’s organisational election process on January 19, 2026. According to an official statement from the BJP Central Election Authority, 37 sets of nomination papers were filed for the post, all proposing Nabin’s name. After scrutiny and withdrawals, his remained the only valid nomination, leading to his unopposed election.
The formal transition of leadership will take place at 11:30 am on January 20 in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh. Nabin will succeed outgoing BJP president JP Nadda, who has led the party through multiple electoral cycles.
A minister in Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s cabinet, Nitin Nabin represents the Bankipur assembly constituency and has served two terms as a state minister. He is the son of late BJP leader and former MLA Nabin Kishore Prasad Sinha and has longstanding roots in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS).
Within the BJP, Nabin is regarded as an organisation-focused leader with strong ideological grounding. His elevation is being seen as a generational shift aimed at strengthening the party’s cadre-based structure ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
