Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated two major Delhi Metro corridors on Sunday, significantly expanding the capital’s metro network and improving connectivity across several key areas. The newly opened 12.3-km Majlis Park–Maujpur-Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line completes the corridor’s circular alignment, making it India’s first operational ring metro network. This section includes nine elevated stations—Majlis Park, Burari, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur—and features important infrastructure such as a new bridge over the Yamuna and a double-decker viaduct carrying both a metro line and road flyover.
In addition, the Prime Minister inaugurated the 9.9-km Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park extension of the Magenta Line. The corridor includes seven stations connecting areas like Madhuban Chowk, Uttar Pitampura–Prashant Vihar, Haiderpur Badli Mor and Bhalaswa. Some sections of this elevated line reach a height of about 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest in the Delhi Metro network. With the extension, the Magenta Line will expand to nearly 49 kilometres.
PM Modi also laid the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase V(A) of the Delhi Metro project. These include the Ramakrishna Ashram Marg–Indraprastha corridor, the Aerocity–Indira Gandhi International Airport Terminal-1 corridor, and the Tughlakabad–Kalindi Kunj corridor. The underground Central Vista corridor will enhance connectivity to key landmarks like India Gate, Central Secretariat and Bharat Mandapam.
Alongside the metro expansion, the Prime Minister launched development projects worth around ₹33,500 crore. This includes redevelopment works under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) programme valued at ₹15,200 crore. The redevelopment of Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Sriniwaspuri will provide more than 9,350 modern flats for government employees along with around 48 lakh square feet of office space.
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta said the expansion of the metro network will create a faster, smoother and environmentally friendly public transport system, helping reduce traffic congestion and pollution in the national capital.
