Prime MinisterNarendra Modihas underlined the significance ofregional languages in India, over the last decade. As part of his government’s initiatives, a specialised portal has been created to champion these native dialects, marking the first such effort in 34 years, said Puri MP andBJP spokesperson Sambit Patraon Wednesday.
During PM Modi's tenure, efforts have been made to integrate mother tongues within the educational system. A National Education Technology (NET) platform has been established, with a particular focus on facilitating translation work. Furthermore, the Prime Minister has advocated for technical and vocational courses to be taught in regional languages, said Patra.
He further said that plans are in place to publish textbooks in at least 23 Indian languages, aiming to release around 22,000 books in the native dialects of the country. The Indian languages such as Assamese, Bengali, Pali, Marathi, Tamil, and Odia have been acknowledged as classical languages, thereby opening up scholarship opportunities for the students.
Sambit Patra also announced the launch of 200 channels dedicated to advancing indigenous languages further. “Under the programme 'Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat' during FY 2020-22, Prime Minister Narendra Modi decided to observe Bharatiya Bhasha Utsav all over the country to stimulate multilingualism, which was recently held on December 11,” he said.
