Odisha Youth Abducted, Assaulted for Protesting Eve-Teasing Near College in Bhadrak

A youth in Odisha’s Bhadrak district was allegedly abducted and beaten after he objected to eve-teasing near a college in Jagannathpur. He was later found injured and admitted to hospital.

A youth was allegedly abducted and assaulted in Bhadrak after he protested against a group of individuals accused of passing comments near a college in the Jagannathpur area on Thursday.

According to reports, the incident began when some youths were allegedly making objectionable remarks near the college premises. Deepak Dakua, who was present at the spot, objected to the behaviour and questioned them. Following his protest, the youths reportedly fled from the area.

However, the situation escalated later in the day when the group allegedly returned. As per the complaint, around 10 to 15 youths forcibly abducted Deepak Dakua in a car and took him away from Jagannathpur. He was later assaulted and left in a severely injured condition near a Shani temple close to the Nathasahi petrol pump on the Bhadrak–Chandbali road.

Family members later found and rescued him, following which he was admitted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for treatment. His condition is reported to be stable.

A complaint in connection with the incident has been lodged at the Bhadrak Town Police Station, and police have initiated an investigation into the matter.

Speaking about the incident, Deepak Dakua said he had confronted the youths after they allegedly passed comments. “I stopped them and asked about passing comments on my sisters. They attacked me, and later around 15 people came, forcibly put me into a vehicle, and assaulted me,” he alleged.
