The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has stepped up its probe into the Odisha Police sub-inspector recruitment scam, summoning aspiring candidates for questioning. On Tuesday, several more aspirants appeared before investigators to provide their accounts, as the agency works to reconstruct the alleged irregularities in the recruitment process.
Earlier, on Monday, the CBI had interrogated 10 candidates. In total, around 30 aspirants have been questioned over the past three days. Notices have been issued to 150 candidates, who are appearing in phases, with investigators gathering detailed information to shape the direction of the ongoing probe. Officials noted that some of the summoned aspirants were allegedly connected to the purported ‘deal’ under investigation, and those who fail to appear may face further action, including possible arrest.
Sources revealed that crucial details related to Silicon Tech Lab Private Limited (STL) and the Odisha Police Recruitment Board (OPRB) are expected to emerge during the interrogations. Statements so far suggest that some OPRB officials may have been involved. The CBI aims to determine whether government officials were complicit, how communication with the accused occurred, and whether aspirants were promised selection under the alleged arrangement. Investigators are also examining how candidates were contacted and convinced of the scam’s success.
Earlier, the CBI filed charge-sheets against the accused in the case, following widespread allegations of large-scale manipulation that raised serious questions about transparency and integrity in the recruitment process. Previously, the Odisha Crime Branch had cleared Silicon Tech Lab in the matter, but the CBI’s chargesheet prompted a more extensive and in-depth investigation, which continues.
