Odisha Government Intensifies Cattle Smuggling Crackdown; Minister Issues Zero-Tolerance Warning

The Odisha government has stepped up its crackdown on illegal cattle smuggling, carrying out fresh raids in Mayurbhanj district that resulted in the seizure of cash, vehicles, and the recovery of numerous cattle.

The Odisha government has stepped up its crackdown on illegal cattle smuggling, conducting fresh raids across Mayurbhanj district that led to the seizure of cash, vehicles, and the recovery of a significant number of cattle.

The move comes after Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Minister Gokulananda Mallik issued a stern warning, stating that the state would show zero tolerance towards those involved in the illegal cattle trade.

No Tolerance for Cattle MafiaSpeaking on Sunday, Minister Mallik declared that there would be “no tolerance for the cattle mafia” and confirmed that strict action is underway against individuals involved in illegal cattle transportation. He added that properties linked to smugglers have already been seized and more stringent measures will follow as investigations continue.

The Minister emphasized that the government would take action regardless of the influence or background of those involved, noting that cattle smugglers had previously operated under the protection of certain politicians and officials—a practice that will no longer be tolerated.

Minister Warns of Continued ActionMallik urged those engaged in illegal cattle trade to reform themselves before facing harsher consequences. He stated that the raids targeted around five locations, resulting in the seizure of substantial assets, and assured that operations would continue to dismantle organised cattle smuggling networks across the state.

“Strict action has been taken against cattle smugglers. All properties linked to the network will be seized, and no one will be spared. Police have been instructed to act firmly and maintain high security at smuggling points. The harshest punishment will be ensured for those found involved,” Mallik said.

The ongoing crackdown signals a major shift in the Odisha government’s approach to tackling organised cattle smuggling, reinforcing a zero-tolerance policy against such illegal activities.
