Odisha Announces Rairangpur as New Police District

The Odisha government has announced Rairangpur as a new police district to strengthen law enforcement, improve law-and-order management, and ensure faster response times.

The Odisha government has announced the creation of a new police district at Rairangpur, further strengthening the state’s policing infrastructure. The Home Department issued an official notification formalising the formation of the district.

Rairangpur Police District has been carved out from the existing Mayurbhanj Police District, with its headquarters located in Rairangpur. With this addition, Odisha now has a total of 35 police districts.

The new district will feature two sub-divisional police offices (SDPOs) at Rairangpur and Karanjia, 14 police stations, five outposts, and two beat houses. The move follows previous efforts to improve law enforcement, including the creation of additional police districts in Ganjam, Sundargarh, Rourkela, Berhampur, as well as urban districts in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack.

The decision aims to enhance administration, coordination, and effective policing in the region. The proposal for the Rairangpur district had been approved by the state government in July 2025.
