Veteran actorNeena Guptarecently opened up about her daughterMasaba Gupta’searly ambition to become a mainstream Hindi film heroine and how a candid reality check changed her career path.
In an interview withANI, Neena recalled that Masaba’s desire to enter Bollywood as a leading lady was shaped largely by her surroundings rather than a carefully thought-out decision. “It was not her decision. Circumstances were like that,” Neena said, explaining how industry aspirations influenced Masaba at the time.
Instead of nurturing unrealistic expectations, Neena chose to be honest about the Hindi film industry’s beauty standards prevalent back then. She told her daughter that she did not fit the conventional mould of a Bollywood heroine of that era. However, the conversation was not meant to discourage Masaba but to help her explore more meaningful and realistic opportunities.
Neena encouraged Masaba to takeformal acting trainingand focus oncharacter-oriented rolesrather than chasing stereotypical lead roles. That advice proved transformative when Masaba made her acting debut in theNetflix seriesMasaba Masaba, portraying a fictionalised version of herself alongside her mother.
Recalling her reaction to Masaba’s performance, Neena admitted she was overwhelmed. She said she was shocked by her daughter’s natural screen presence and professionalism, adding that Masaba handled the camera with remarkable ease.
Following her debut, Masaba Gupta continued exploring acting with a segment inAmazon Prime Video’sModern Love: Mumbai. She also appeared in a dance number inKesari Chapter 2, gradually expanding her presence beyond the fashion industry, where she remains a leading designer.
Meanwhile, Neena Gupta is preparing for the release ofVadh 2, a crime thriller co-starringSanjay Mishra, which is scheduled to hit theatres onFebruary 6.
