Mohammed Kaif has advised India batter Tilak Varma to stick to his natural role as an anchor in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2026. While Tilak has scored 107 runs in five matches at a strike rate of 118, he struggled during the Super 8 clash against South Africa, getting out attempting a big shot off Marco Jansen.
Kaif, speaking on his YouTube channel, emphasized that the team management should guide Tilak to focus on playing a steady innings, similar to Virat Kohli’s approach in T20 cricket. With India boasting an array of attacking players like Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Rinku Singh, Tilak’s role should be to bat deep and anchor the chase.
The former cricketer stressed that listening to external pressure and media criticism can lead to mistakes, and players must trust their natural game. Tilak is expected to bat in India’s must-win match against Zimbabwe in Chennai on February 26, 2026.
