India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah is likely to prioritise One Day Internationals over bilateral T20Is as the team begins planning for the next ICC Cricket World Cup 2027. According to sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India, the team management wants to carefully manage Bumrah’s workload while ensuring he remains fit for key tournaments and Test matches.

The decision comes shortly after India’s success in the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, where Bumrah played a crucial role and finished as the tournament’s top wicket-taker. With the focus now shifting to the 50-over format, India is expected to rely heavily on the experienced fast bowler in the ODI setup.

Bumrah has not played an ODI since India’s defeat to Australia national cricket team in the 2023 World Cup final. The pacer has been carefully managed due to recurring back issues and was also ruled out of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 due to a lower-back injury.

India’s preparations for the next ODI World Cup cycle are expected to intensify after the upcoming Indian Premier League season. The planning process will involve head coach Gautam Gambhir, captain Shubman Gill and Centre of Excellence chief VVS Laxman as they map out India’s white-ball strategy.

Along with Bumrah, India’s ODI pace attack is expected to feature bowlers such as Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana.

While Bumrah may skip several bilateral T20I series, he is still believed to be interested in representing India at the 2028 Summer Olympics, where cricket will return in the T20 format.
