The Government of Ireland will begin accepting applications for the 2026 cycle of its prestigious Government of Ireland International Education Scholarship (GOI-IES) programme from January 29. The initiative aims to attract high-achieving international students to pursue postgraduate education in Ireland.
Each year, 60 scholarships are awarded, providing recipients with a €10,000 stipend for one academic year, while participating Irish higher education institutions fully cover tuition fees. The programme supports students enrolling in NFQ Level 9 and Level 10 courses, including master’s degrees, postgraduate diplomas and PhD programmes.
The scholarship is jointly funded by the Irish government and higher education institutions and is administered by the Higher Education Authority (HEA). Applications for the 2026 intake will close at 5 pm (Irish time) on March 12, 2026, with successful applicants expected to be notified in early June.
Applicants must be domiciled outside the EU, EEA, Switzerland and the UK, and must hold a conditional or final offer from an eligible Irish institution at the time of application. Previous GOI-IES recipients, as well as Russian and Belarusian nationals, are not eligible. Selection will be based on academic excellence, communication skills, extracurricular involvement and a strong motivation to study in Ireland aligned with long-term career goals.
