Heavy Rain, Hailstorm and Gusty Winds Lash Odisha; India Meteorological Department Issues Yellow Warning

Several districts in Odisha experienced heavy rain, hailstorms, and strong winds, disrupting normal life and damaging crops. The India Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Warning for 18 districts, cautioning residents about thunderstorms and lightning.

Unseasonal heavy rain, hailstorms, and gusty winds hit multiple districts of Odisha on Monday, causing disruption and crop damage in several areas. Districts such as Koraput, Bargarh, and Subarnapur witnessed intense rainfall along with hailstones and strong winds, creating panic among residents.

In Koraput district, regions like Potangi, Gangarajpur, and Sunki experienced sudden torrential rain after dark clouds formed unexpectedly. Similarly, Binika and nearby villages in Subarnapur district reported hailstorms, continuous rain, and gusty winds. The sudden weather change has caused concern among farmers, as standing crops have been damaged in several affected areas.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Warning for thunderstorms, lightning, rain, and gusty winds across 18 districts, including Sundargarh, Malkangiri, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, and Ganjam. The weather agency has advised people to remain alert and take precautions to avoid lightning-related risks.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the state braces for more adverse weather in the coming days.
