Former Vice President Dhankhar hospitalised at AIIMS after fainting twice

Former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) on Monday following at least two episodes of unconsciousness reported over the weekend.

The 74-year-old leader had visited AIIMS for a routine medical check-up, during which doctors advised hospitalisation for further evaluation. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI scan as part of the diagnostic process. “He had gone to AIIMS for a check-up today, but doctors insisted that he be admitted for detailed tests,” an official told PTI.

According to officials, Dhankhar experienced two bouts of unconsciousness on January 10 while going to the washroom, which raised medical concerns and led to consultations before his admission. He is currently under observation, and doctors are expected to review his condition on Tuesday to determine whether he is fit for discharge.

An official noted that Dhankhar has faced similar episodes in the past during public engagements while serving as Vice President. He reportedly lost consciousness on multiple occasions at different locations, including the Rann of Kutch, Uttarakhand, Kerala and the national capital.

Dhankhar had resigned from the post of Vice President on July 21, citing health-related reasons. At the time, sources indicated that recurring health issues played a key role in his decision to step down.
