Clube de Regatas do Flamengo have parted ways with head coach Filipe Luis following a series of underwhelming results, even though the team secured an emphatic 8-0 victory over Madureira in the Carioca semi-final at the Maracanã Stadium.
According to reports, the decision was made prior to the semi-final kick-off and communicated shortly after the match by football director Jos Boto. Club president Luiz Eduardo Baptista, known as Bap, had reportedly grown dissatisfied with early-season performances, particularly after defeats in the Brazilian Super Cup and South American Super Cup.
Filipe Luis, who began his coaching journey within Flamengo’s youth ranks, enjoyed notable success by winning the Copa do Brasil, Supercopa do Brasil, Campeonato Carioca and Copa Libertadores during his tenure. However, mounting pressure following recent setbacks strained relations with the club’s leadership.
Portuguese coach Leonardo Jardim has emerged as the leading candidate to replace him, with Flamengo keen to appoint a new manager swiftly ahead of the Carioca final against Fluminense FC.
