Exclusive Satellite Images Reveal China’s Rapid Infrastructure Expansion in Shaksgam Valley

An India Today OSINT analysis indicates that construction support sites, roads, and tunnelling activities in Shaksgam Valley have intensified between 2024 and 2025.

Exclusive satellite imagery sourced by India Today’s OSINT team indicates that China is rapidly expanding infrastructure in the disputed Shaksgam Valley. New road alignments, construction support sites, possible cement units, and tunnelling activity have intensified from 2024 to 2025, with several sites located close to India’s Siachen Glacier sector.

India has rejected China’s activities, citing the 1963 China-Pakistan agreement over the valley as illegal, with the Army and Ministry of External Affairs reaffirming India’s territorial claim. Beijing, however, maintains that the region is Chinese territory and defends its construction projects as legitimate.

High-resolution imagery from November 2025 shows active tunnelling less than 30 km from Siachen, supported by roads, temporary shelters, staging areas, and earth-moving machinery. Historical imagery confirms that infrastructure work has accelerated over the last two years, progressing from the northwest towards the south and east, highlighting the strategic significance of the region near the Karakoram passes.
