In an unusual wildlife incident, two elephants entered the campus of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Rourkela early Tuesday morning, creating panic among students and staff. The institute, located close to forest areas and the township, houses nearly 8,000 students and residents, prompting authorities to act swiftly.
Forest Department teams immediately reached the spot and began efforts to safely drive the elephants back toward the nearby reserve forest. Officials are prioritising public safety while ensuring no harm comes to the animals. Temporary fencing and monitoring measures have been put in place to prevent the elephants from moving into residential zones within the campus.
Officials also confirmed that three additional elephants were spotted in the Jagda area nearby. Authorities have assured that the situation is under control and urged people not to panic as the elephants remain within the forested section of the campus.
