A controversy erupted at Bhubaneswar’s Lingaraj Temple after Brahman and Badu Nijog groups blamed each other for halting daily rituals, drawing strong reactions from political and administrative quarters and upsetting devotees.
Ekamra MLA Babu Singh issued a stern warning to the temple servitors, calling the stoppage “extremely unfortunate” and unacceptable. He emphasized that servitors are responsible for performing temple duties and maintaining traditions, and cannot take unilateral decisions that disrupt worship. Singh warned of strict action against those involved in halting rituals and urged that grievances should be addressed through proper channels after daily rituals, not by stopping them.
“Sevayats are not above Lord Lingaraj. Such acts hurt devotees and the Lord, and tarnish the identity of Ekamra Khetra,” he said, appealing for restraint and urging all stakeholders to protect devotees’ faith and sentiments.
