Dalal Street Rebounds After Weak Opening; IT Stocks Support Market

Benchmark indices opened lower on Tuesday due to weakness in metal and financial stocks but later rebounded into positive territory. Strong corporate earnings growth and improving macro fundamentals continue to support investor confidence despite global and regulatory concerns.

Indian benchmark indices opened on a cautious note Tuesday morning, dragged down by declines in metal and financial stocks during early trade. However, the market quickly regained momentum, reflecting strong underlying resilience in domestic equities.

The S&P BSE Sensex rose 42.49 points to 83,319.64, while the NIFTY 50 slipped 17.05 points to 25,665.70 as of 10:10 am. Despite the initial weakness, Dalal Street managed to rebound and trade in the green, supported largely by gains in IT stocks.

According to Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist at Geojit Investments Limited, the recent 211-point jump in Nifty—despite a sell-off in capital market-related stocks—highlights the market’s resilience. The decline in certain segments followed the Reserve Bank of India’s tighter regulations on loans to proprietary traders and brokers.

He emphasized that India’s improving macroeconomic fundamentals are providing strong support to equities. Corporate earnings growth of 14.7% in Q3 has exceeded expectations, with momentum expected to continue in Q4 and accelerate further in FY27. This earnings visibility is strengthening long-term investor sentiment.

Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs), despite intermittent selling triggered by global events such as AI-related shocks impacting IT stocks, are expected to turn significant buyers given India’s strong growth outlook. Additionally, geopolitical developments, including the US-Iran standoff, may cause short-term volatility, but such corrections are viewed as buying opportunities.

Robust credit growth is another positive factor, particularly for leading banking stocks that are currently considered fairly valued. Overall, the broader market sentiment remains constructive, underpinned by earnings momentum, macro stability, and improving investor confidence.
