The incident has renewed concerns over the dangers of kite strings, particularly sharp or glass-coated threads, which pose serious risks to pedestrians and commuters during festive seasons.

Manja-Coated Kite Strings Cause Serious Injury to Cuttack Youth

Despite repeated bans and awareness campaigns, the use of manja-coated kite strings continues to endanger public safety across Odisha. On Thursday, a young man was critically injured after coming into contact with a sharp manja-coated thread in Cuttack’s Khan Nagar traffic area. The thread, reportedly coated with glass or metal, slashed his nose while he was riding a bike, causing severe bleeding. He was immediately admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Local police have launched an investigation. Authorities have reiterated warnings against using such dangerous kite strings, highlighting the risk they pose to commuters, pedestrians, and birds.

Similar incidents have been reported recently: two people were seriously injured in Balasore and Dhenkanal, and a young man narrowly survived a manja-related accident in Pokhariput, Bhubaneswar. These cases underscore ongoing concerns about the hazardous use of sharp or glass-coated kite threads, especially during festive seasons.
