A shocking incident occurred at a school hostel in Ballari district, Karnataka, where a Class 9 student allegedly attacked several fellow students with an iron rod late on Sunday night. According to police, the incident took place at Gurukul International School after a minor dispute. The accused reportedly struck multiple students while they were asleep in the hostel after dinner and also attacked the hostel warden before fleeing the scene.
One student died from severe injuries, while seven others were injured and rushed to Vijayanagara Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) hospital in Ballari for treatment. Some of the injured students are said to be in serious condition.
While the school administration described the incident as an iron rod attack, the victim’s family has alleged that the student was stabbed with a knife and questioned the school’s version of events. The victim’s parents also raised concerns about the safety measures in the hostel and claimed the accused might have been a drug addict.
Police have launched a manhunt to trace the accused student and have begun an investigation into the circumstances that led to the violent attack.
